On behalf of the 8th Emed (Essential Medicines) main committee, I will like to thank all those who have supported us in any small way and provided us with guidance for the past one year. We could not have done it without your enthusiastic involvement in Emed voluntary activities such as fund raising (Koi bubble tea sales/adopting a Brown Bag) and our biannual Brown Bagging. YOU made our events a success!

The time to pass on the passion for volunteerism in Pharmacy students has come and the recruitment for Essential Medicines (Emed) main committee 2010 has officially begun!

If you possess an interest in health -care related community service and organizing events and would like to enrich your University years, then you are the one we are looking for!

There are 8 posts available in the Emed main committee and the individual job descriptions are as described below. The application form is attached in the email and the deadline for submission is on 4th Sep 2010 (Sat).Details of interview will be made known on a later date. 1. Project Director (PD)
- Oversees the whole committee and ensure that the vision and objectives are adhered to and achieved.
- Calls for meeting and prepares the agenda for the meeting.
- Liaises with external agencies.
- Responsible to the President of NUSPS

2. Deputy Project Director (DPD)
-Supports the PD in achieving the vision and objectives of Emed
- Liaises with external agencies
- In charge of local community projects
- Works closely with Voluntary team

3. Secretary
- Documentation of proceedings
- Proper book-keeping of official documents
- Works closely with other com members to provide administrative support

4. Treasurer
- Proper book-keeping of Emed financial records
- Payment and claims system
- Audits of all accounts

5. Voluntary Team Manager
- Sourcing for voluntary projects which include both adhoc and long term projects
- Planning and Coordination of projects together with PD/DPD
- To recruit and manage volunteers for Emed events

6. Publicity Team Manager
- Advertising and promotion of all Emed activities
- Recruitment of manpower for projects
- Visual documentation of the event and preparation of event’s publicity materials

7. Marketing Team Manager
- Coordination of fund-raising activities
- Sourcing of sponsorship for Emed events

8. Operations Team Manager
- Maintenance of logistics supplies
- Coordinates all logistics support during projects
- Stock-taking

There is an extension of deadline for the nomination form to Monday 30th August. We highly encourage those who are interested to take the weekend to carefully consider about running for any positions. You may submit your completed nomination form to any member of the 49th Executive Committee on Monday.

In addition, the deadline for the handing in of the video would be Friday, 3rd September 2359 through dropbox. More information in a separate email will be sent to the nominees on Monday.

Interested to participate in an overseas service learning project? Want to lend a helping hand to those in need beyond our local community? Here’s your chance!

The annual Pharmacy YEP, “Dispense-A-Dream” is here again! (:

This year, we will be embarking on a journey to a village in Prey Veng, Cambodia to aid in the building of a house for one of the local villagers. We carried out a similar project last year and this year, we hope to return to the same place to continue spreading our love to the other villagers ?

We will be working with Operation Hope Foundation and other than helping to build the house, we will also be spending some time interacting with the children at Hope Village. We will also engage in simple soap making and distribution to the villagers.

Some details of the trip as follows:
Date: 7th – 23rd December 2010 (Working days will be until 21st, after which will be R&R)
Location: Prey Veng, Cambodia
Cost: SGD$500

Your one-stop convenient place for chill-laxing is back! The Pharmaceutical Society (PS) Room will re-open on Monday, 23/8/2010! Opening hours are from Mondays to Fridays 12-2pm. Do drop by and cozy up with fellow pharmers and chill/sleep/do tutorials before lessons!

Some housekeeping rules:
- Do remember to take off your shoes at the door.
- You can eat and drink in the PS room, but do throw your rubbish outside, NOT in the PS room. Remember to replace things that you remove from their original position before you leave too! Please help us keep the room clean and tidy =)
- Mama shop sells snacks at 50 cent per item. Please be honest and put 50 cents in the cashbox for every item you take! NUSPS Welfare trusts you!

Do drop by when you are feeling tired or bored, or need some food and drinks to re-energize! =)

This is a reminder about Activaid 2010 which is on 4th Sept 2010 (Saturday).

In this conference, you will attend keynote speeches by Mr Jack Sim (Founder of World Toilet Organisation), Dr Tan Chi Chiu and Dr John Lee, and workshops held by organisations such as Redcross, Singhealth Relief Programme, Mercy Relief.

If you are interested to find out about the experiences of these inspiring healthcare professionals and to discuss issues regarding humanitarian work, you have to attend this conference! In addition, there will be exhibition booths set up by Redcross, Goducate, Mercy Relief and more so you will be able to find out more about these organisations and the volunteering opportunities available.

Our website provides details on how to register, where the talk will be held, as well as more information on the speakers. Please note that registration will be extended till 28th August 2010 (Saturday). A small one-time $5 registration fee will be required that can be paid on the day itself.

The event will start promptly at 9am and will definitely end by 5pm. Some people have asked if they are able to join the conference halfway as they have something on in the morning. You are able to do so but just make a note in the signup sheet.

If you have indicated your interest in volunteering for this event, you should have received a confirmation email by now. The slots for student volunteers are full, if you have not received any email, please sign up through the website as a participant instead.
